School of Choice Permit

 

Who is it for?

  • For families who reside within LUVSD Borders

  • For families and current students who would like to attend a different LVUSD school

    • Including students who live outside LVUSD and were ​previously permitted to attend LVUSD

Note that some LVUSD schools are at capacity. Application for a School of Choice Permit is not a guarantee of transfer to the requested school.


How to apply for a School of Choice Permit:

  1. Fill out School of Choice Permit Application between November 21, 2022 to February 1, 2023. (Application does not open until 9 am on November 21, 2022).

  2. Enroll at your home school.  You can find your home school here.

  3. Submit required documents if applicable.

  4. Wait for a decision from LVUSD.  Decisions are released by March 15.

  5. Follow instructions on the permit decision. 

School Of Choice Application Notes:

Applicants MUST enroll  at their home school during the application process.  If  approved, the School of Choice permit will be in effect for the duration of the student’s years at the approved school site.   In order to change schools again, a new application must be submitted. This includes returning to the home school. Mid-year transfers are not available after the start of the school year.

Home to school transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.  Any student attending a school in the Las Virgenes Unified School District on a permit is required to carpool. Click here to go to Carpool Connection.

What is a School of Choice Permit?

This permit is for families who reside within LVUSD borders and current students who would like to attend a different LVUSD school. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD.

Who can apply for a School of Choice Permit?

Any student living in the boundaries of LVUSD may apply. This includes students who live outside the district and were previously released from their home district in a prior year and have been permitted to attend LVUSD. You do not need to submit a School of Choice Application if you are planning to attend your neighborhood school.  To determine your neighborhood school, please use the Find your School tool. Please note:  Buttercup Preschool does not accept permits.

How do I apply for a School of Choice Permit?

Applications will be open from November 21  through February 1st. Follow the steps on the school of choice permit application. Please note that upon approval of your School of Choice application, you forfeit your student’s space at your neighborhood school.  If you cancel your application before the start of the school year and space is no longer available at your neighborhood school, you will remain assigned to your school of choice until space is available at your neighborhood school.

Who should submit documents for a School of Choice Permit?

Students who are not currently enrolled in LVUSD should submit documentation. This is not needed for students applying to Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten.

What documentation should be submitted when applying?

Follow the steps on the School of Choice application and email the documents by February 1st.  A complete application must include a rationale for the transfer request, the student’s report cards, attendance and behavior reports (current and last year only).  If your student has a 504 plan or IEP in place, a fully executed copy of the documentation should be submitted. 

Where should documentation be submitted?

How do we know if our student has been accepted?

School of Choice applications received by the February 1 deadline will be reviewed by March 15.  Families will receive an email with the status of the application. Applications received after the deadline will be processed on a case by case basis.
